Once in our lives we have all said ¨When in Rome, do as the Romans do.¨, but have you ever imagined literally living as a Roman? Well, from July 19th to 21st you have the opportunity to do so. Arde Lucus is an spectacularly vibrant festival in Lugo, Galicia. Imagine thousands of people walking the streets of Lugo, dressed up as Romans, eating tapas, paying with Roman dinarius, visiting Roman camps, getting wed and baptized, observing military marches and the Roman circus… all as the Romans do. Or rather did. This festival honors Lugo´s 2000 year old connection with ancient Rome: the walled Roman city of Lucus Augusti.
And don´t forget that these are not just mere costumes like in Halloween, but rather a 72-hour transformation from the 2st century to the Roman city of Lucus Augusti. And if you live this experience, you can henceforth say ¨I did as the Romans did.¨ Another reason for #dontbeaforeigner.
